#SASMASK Information

See our #sasMASK explained page.

The #sasMASK is community face mask that complies with the latest guidelines for layering and materials. It is designed for everyday use, mitigating the spread of respiratory-droplet-transmitted diseases like COVID-19.

#sasMASK's are not medical grade. They are community masks that provide significant all-round protection, functionality and comfort, without compromising any medical supply chains.

#sasMasks have a three-layered composition.

1.  Inner cotton layer – soft and comfortable for your skin
2. Central polypropylene layer – a higher level of droplet containment
3. Outer polyester layer – a durable, water-resistant and aesthetically versatile surface

#sasMASK's are fully compliant with the most recent safety guidelines on best materials and layering.

✔ Protective - three layers of containment
✔ Reusable - machine washable at 60 degrees
✔ Comfortable - lightweight and breathable; perfect for lengthy wear-time
✔ Audible - be clearly heard with minimal voice-muffling
✔ Aesthetic - choose from a wide range of designs
✔ Durable – high-quality materials and build that won’t let you down
✔ Socially responsible - protect those around you and the medical community

We support NHS Charities Together & we've raised almost £20k for NHS frontline workers and other worthy causes.

See our #sasMASK explained page.

#sasMASKs have a three-layered composition.

1. Inner cotton layer – soft and comfortable for your skin
2. Central polypropylene layer – a higher level of droplet containment
3. Outer polyester layer – a durable, water-resistant and aesthetically versatile surface

Such layering and materials have been shown to be the most effective at respiratory droplet containment, outside of medical grade masks, like the N95 respirator.

Our masks have 2 fixed elastic straps that go round the back of the head.

✔ avoids sore ears

✔ no need to tie knots

✔ versatile fit

Simply adjust the angle that you wear the upper elastic strap - for the fit that best suits you!

Yes! This wired section allows you to have better control over how your mask fits around your nose.

This can be particularly useful for minimising the chance of foggy glasses!

Blood oxygen levels will highly depend on the individual. Our masks are really quite breathable...

If you have any concerns, you should seek the advice of a medical professional who can assess your personal circumstances.

For people in good health:
Our bodies can quite safely make adjustments for small variations in oxygen supply - our bodies have to do this naturally in different altitudes and environments.

For those with oxygen-related health conditions:
It is recommended that those with respiratory conditions or compromised cardio-vascular systems, should not wear face coverings.

An ever-growing number of nations and organisations recommend that the public wear face masks outside of the home. Some countries make it mandatory.

Wearing a suitable face mask should be basic common courtesy to those around you. They do a great job of minimising the spread of respiratory droplets in public spaces and provide a level of protection to the wearer. This is why you may have heard the adage: “My mask protects you; your mask protects me.”

The use of face masks in the community should be considered only as a complementary measure to (and not as a replacement for) established preventive measures, such as physical distancing, respiratory etiquette, hand-washing and avoiding face-touching.

It's recommended you wear face masks whenever you leave home, but particularly when in public indoor spaces.

Face coverings should not be used by:
  • children under the age of two
  • those who may find it difficult to manage them correctly
  • those with respiratory conditions

If you want to know what the essential qualities of a good face mask are you can read our post all about it here.

Medical-grade respirators
• Fit tightly on the wearer’s face (for a near-perfect seal)
• Filter out a higher percentage of air particles
• Filter out smaller airborne particles (down to 0.3 micron-particles)
• Are for single/short term use or have replaceable filters
• Sometimes utilise a valve to reduce exhalation resistance

Medical-grade surgical masks
• Are for single/short term use
• Filter out larger respiratory particles and fluids

Community masks
• Serve a similar function to surgical masks
• Are reusable/washable
• Exclude materials and manufacturers used by the medical community

Supplies of medical-grade PPE should be left to medical workers on the frontline and those in high-risk categories.

#SASMASK Care instructions

1. Machine wash up to 60 degrees
2. Smoothen / reshape while still damp
3. Hang / air dry

• Do not tumble dry
• Do not iron

To maximize longevity, wash #sasMASKs inside a washing net or pillow case.

Generally speaking, the more often you wash your #sasMASK, the better.

Many people wash community masks every day. We recommend washing your #sasMASK at least once a week or after any period of prolonged use in public indoor spaces.

We also highly recommend that you have at least two masks, so that you always have a clean one ready to use.

Size and Fit

Dimensions may vary a small amount from stated sizes

14.5cm deep front to back

14.0cm high at the front
14.0cm deep front to back

13.0cm high at the front
13.0cm deep front to back
(also suitable for most kids/teenagers ages 10 to 16)

10.5cm high at the front
10.5cm deep front to back
(suitable for most kids ages 3 to 7)

Face coverings should not be used by:
  • children under the age of two
  • those who may find it difficult to manage them correctly
  • those with respiratory conditions

1. Lightly spread the elastic with both hands and place the inner/lower part of mask under your chin.

2. Pull both straps over your head (mask should cover chin, mouth and nose) with the lower straps under your ears, and the upper straps above your ears

3. Adjust/pinch the area around your nose to reshape to your preference (the mask is not designed to provide a perfect air-tight seal)

4. Adjust the straps so that the mask feels comfortable and secure.

(depending on your natural head/hair shape, you may find the upper strap should be placed at a fairly high angle for best fit)

1) you can adjust the proportionate length of elastic between the lower and upper straps by pulling the elastic through the side of the mask (where the elastic is not sewn in place)

2) you can adjust the angle that the upper elastic strap sits on your head (some people like the upper strap to be on the back of their head, some find a better fit with it near the top of their head)

3) if the elastic is too loose, you can tie a knot in the lower elastic strap to shorten the overall length.
